No visit to Bangkok would be complete without a stop at the dazzling Grand Palace. The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings which include the former royal residence, state departments, and the Thai war ministry. The palace was built in 1782 and acted as the home of the Thai King for 150 years. Inside the palace grounds you will also find Wat Phra Kaew, known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which is the most important Buddhist temple in the country. Visitors to the Grand Palace should note that a strict dress code applies. Men are expected to wear long pants, and women skirts that cover their legs. No shoulders should be visible.
