Temples of Bagan in Burma by Flickr user edbrambley

Bagan was once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Pagan. The kingdom reached its peak during the 11th and 13th centuries, when more than 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were built on the plains of Bagan alone. Today, over 2,200 of those temples and pagodas still remain standing. The journey is not an easy one, but the age old sights are bound to be rewarding.
